The Progressive Party is founded on specific policies and opinions, but one of the premises of democracy is that free activity on political views is allowed to thrive. For this reason, political parties enjoy constitutional protection as particularly important associations in a democratic state. By joining the party, one subscribes to its fundamental principles.
The Progressive Party is concerned about informing its members about what is happening in the party's sphere and therefore engages in extensive information dissemination to its party members. Membership always implies that the party and the member are in communication, including on policy issues, meetings, candidacies, elections, finances, and other matters related to the party’s activities.
By accepting the terms set out in this application for membership in the Progressive Party, the applicant agrees to the terms set forth in this document regarding the collection, retention, and processing of personal data for the purposes described below. It should be noted that when applying for party membership, the applicant must specifically agree that the Progressive Party has permission to communicate with the member via email or phone.
The personal information provided during registration with the Progressive Party is stored at its office. In order to ensure reliability, it is updated as needed, e.g., by cross-referencing with the national register.
Below is an overview of the information the party may collect about its members and the purposes for which this information is retained.
NAME
The information is used to keep track of the names of those who are members of the party and its individual associations. It is also used to monitor those in sponsorship systems, pay membership fees, and those who hold confidential positions for the party. Names, addresses, and identification numbers are used to keep track of those living in each municipality and constituency who have the right to attend meetings, enjoy eligibility in relevant associations and connections, and the right to participate in the method of selecting candidates in the run-up to parliamentary and municipal elections.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Apart from the above, identification numbers are primarily used to distinguish between those who share the same names. Identification numbers are also used to obtain information about the age and gender of party members. Additionally, they are used to request monthly updates from the national registry regarding residency and other information that the national registry holds. For more details, see the party's Privacy Policy.
HOME ADDRESS AND POSTCODE
Information about your address and postcode is used to register party members in the correct party branches within the party, that is, those party branches and councils operating in the municipality/postcode where the individual resides. Additionally, information about your address and postcode is also used to forward information by post regarding party activities. See further in the party's Privacy Policy.
Email addresses are used to send information to party members, which can be of any kind and may relate to events, meetings, messages, fundraising, policies, as well as various matters related to elections, etc. Records are kept of the email addresses of those who have given permission for this.
PHONE NUMBER
Phone numbers are used to communicate information to group members, which can be of any kind and may relate to events, meetings, messages, fundraising, policies, as well as various matters connected to elections, etc. Records are kept of the phone numbers of those who have given permission for this.
PROCESSING CLASS RECORD
Access to the party register in its entirety is only available to those employees of the Progressive Party who require it for their work, and it is not shared with third parties. For more details, see the section on the dissemination of personal information in the party's privacy policy.
The central party register holds information about the membership list of each affiliated organisation. Access to such a membership list is only granted to the chairs and boards for legitimate purposes to fulfil obligations to members, including due to general and club meetings, as well as in relation to the method of selecting candidate lists. This also applies, where applicable, to party members in special confidential roles such as chairpersons and employees of club meetings, as well as election boards and nomination committees related to the method of selecting candidate lists. Boards of organisations may provide a specific group of members with limited access to the membership list, in facilities provided by the party, to disseminate information to other members, e.g. in the lead-up to national and local elections. When such a register is compiled, identification numbers, names, addresses, postal codes, and, where applicable, telephone numbers of all individuals who are members of an organisation are disclosed. Organisations and federations are not provided with email addresses from the party register, but the office of the party sends out messages via email to the area of each organisation and federation as needed. Such access to the membership list is only granted against the signing of a confidentiality agreement regarding its handling, ensuring that its management complies fully with the party's rules and national laws.
In the central party registry, information is kept regarding the membership list of each affiliated party. Only the chairs of these parties and their boards have access to such membership lists for legitimate purposes to fulfil their duties to members, including for general and party meetings as well as regarding the procedure for selecting candidate lists. This may also apply to party members in specific trusted roles such as chairpersons and staff of party meetings, as well as election committees and nomination committees in connection with the method for selecting candidate lists. The boards of the associations may grant a specific group of members limited access to the membership list, in a venue on behalf of the party, to convey information to other members, for example, in the lead-up to parliamentary and municipal elections. When such a registry is prepared, identification numbers, names, addresses, postal codes, and, if applicable, phone numbers of all members of the organisation are listed. Parties and associations are not given email addresses from the party registry; however, the party office sends out announcements via email to the operational area of each party and association as needed. Such access to the membership list is only granted upon signing a confidentiality agreement regarding its handling, ensuring that its management complies entirely with the party’s rules and national laws.
In connection with the procedure for selecting candidate lists, ordering, and elections for trusted roles within the parties and associations, candidates may gain access to the electoral register, i.e., the relevant membership list, provided they sign confidentiality agreements regarding the handling of the electoral register, ensuring that its management complies entirely with the party’s rules and national laws. When preparing the electoral register, the relevant email addresses are never disclosed to third parties, but individual candidates may, in the candidate selection process, request the party office to send out emails in their name to those individuals on the electoral register.
The main purpose of obtaining and processing personal information is so that the party can fulfil its obligations and exercise its role towards party members. Information is not used for any purposes other than those it was obtained for.
A general description of the obtaining and processing of personal information is outlined in the privacy policy of the Progressive Party, which can be accessed on the party’s website, www.framsokn.is, and it should be viewed as part of the terms of these.
The Progressive Party encourages anyone wishing to join the party to get well acquainted with the policy.
