Equality Plan
The equality plan stipulates how the Progressive Party works towards equality and respect among all those involved in party activities and politics, both internally and externally. The goal is to achieve equal participation of members regardless of origin, characteristics, gender, and age in the party's operations, decision-making, and division of responsibilities.
Implementation and Scope
This plan applies to all party institutions as well as all those who perform trusted and responsible roles for the party.
Equality Representative – Equality Committee
The Equality Representative shall operate on behalf of the party and have access to a staff member. They shall make proposals and suggestions to those preparing candidacies on behalf of the party. The Equality Representative is accountable to the national leadership of the Progressive Party and presents an annual status report on equality issues within the party.
The Equality Representative serves as an advisor and assistance for party members, constituency councils, parliamentary group, executive board, and all members on equality issues. Among other things, to work towards equal participation of members regardless of origin, characteristics, gender, and age in the party's work. The Equality Representative works closely with the party's institutions on policy formulation in equality issues within the Progressive Party and its political activities within the governance system.
The party's equality committee has the task of following up on the Progressive Party's equality plan. The equality committee includes representatives from LFK, SUF, and the parliamentary group in addition to the party's executive director. The Equality Representative shall be the chair of the equality committee. The equality committee shall meet no less than four times a year.
Boards of constituency associations shall, in collaboration with the Equality Representative, work on ideas to achieve the goals of the equality plan in each constituency.
Equality Plans of the Party's Institutions
The equality committee directs special associations, constituency boards, the parliamentary group, and executive board to make an annual action plan on equality issues within the respective institutions of the party. This should reflect how they intend to work based on the equality plan and what measures are planned for this purpose.
Party members will regularly be informed about institutions of the party, in the Parliament, in ministries, local governments, and among the party's ministers, where a comparison is made between years, including in relation to gender ratios.
The equality committee grants recognition at the party congress to the party establishment or individuals who have excelled in advancing the party's equality plan.
Education and Awareness
Education on equality issues and ways to work towards a more equal status for party members, regardless of origin, characteristics, gender, and age, shall be an active part of the work of the Equality Representative.
Emphasis on Gender Equality
Various presentation and speech training courses along with awareness-raising activities shall be an active part of the party's operations aimed at balancing the status of genders. The Equality Representative, in cooperation with the party's education and awareness committee, shall ensure that courses are held widely.
The party allocates an annual grant to the equality committee for publication and awareness-raising activities aiming to balance the status of genders.
The laws and regulations of the Progressive Party, constituency associations, and progressive clubs shall be reviewed with the aim of ensuring equal status for genders, but the goal shall also encompass equal status for members regardless of origin, characteristics, gender, and age.
Committees, Councils, and Candidate Lists
When arranging candidate lists, appointments to committees, working groups, and boards on behalf of the party, the gender ratio shall be as balanced as possible. The Equality Representative shall work closely with those involved in the matter.
The goal shall be to maintain that by the year 2020, neither men's nor women's share in trusted and responsible positions within the party is less than 40%.
Review in 2020
This plan shall be reviewed every other year prior to the party congress. The review shall consider a survey of the success of the plan.
