Party list for parliamentary elections
  • The constituency association of the Progress Party in each constituency shall propose candidates for the party.

  • If one constituency association operates in Reykjavík, it is permitted to propose candidates in both Reykjavík constituencies (north and south).

Methods for selecting a candidate list

The electoral district assembly decides on the method for selecting the list and finalises the candidate list.

The rules regarding nominations must be submitted at least 6 months before regular elections.

Possible avenues for nomination (according to section 5.1 of the laws of the Progress Party):
  1. Representative election

  2. Closed primary

  3. Double constituency assembly

  4. Nomination

  5. Open primary

The amendment was approved in 2011

At the party congress in 2011, amendments were approved that introduced a special section on candidacy matters.
